Cuckoo

Cuckoo vs Cronitor

Checked

Cronitor is a monitoring platform built around cron jobs and scheduled tasks. It adds uptime checks, status pages, real-user analytics and error tracking on top [1][2]. Its CLI reads your crontab (or Windows Task Scheduler) and walks you through adding monitors, it captures job output, and it shows duration and success-rate dashboards [2]. Its Business plan is metered at $2 per monitor per month plus $5 per user per month [1].

Cuckoo does one thing: it watches scheduled jobs. Each job gets a ping URL (https://cuckoo.metastic.ch/ping/YOUR-UUID) with /start, /fail and exit-code suffixes. You set a period or a cron expression with a time zone and a grace time, and alerts go out by email, Slack, Discord or signed webhook. It also accepts Sentry SDK cron check-ins. Plans are flat: Free (20 checks), Team CHF 12/month (200 checks), Business CHF 39/month (1,000 checks). Cuckoo is new and has far fewer features than Cronitor.

Prices and features were checked on 2026-11-05 on Cronitor's public pricing and product pages and may have changed since. Cuckoo's prices are its list prices on that date (CHF, VAT may apply). Cronitor is a trademark of its owner. Cuckoo is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Cronitor.

Cost for an example team

List prices only, before taxes, not converted between USD and CHF. Cronitor figures use its published Business rates of $2 per monitor and $5 per user per month [1]. Cronitor's own example: 20 monitors + 3 users = $55/month [1].

Setup Cronitor Business Cuckoo
10 monitors, 1 user 10 × $2 + 1 × $5 = $25/month Free plan (up to 20 checks, 3 members)
20 monitors, 3 users 20 × $2 + 3 × $5 = $55/month [1] Free plan (20 checks, 3 members)
50 monitors, 5 users 50 × $2 + 5 × $5 = $125/month Team CHF 12/month (200 checks, 10 members)

Cronitor mentions volume discounts without numbers [1]. Cuckoo's Business plan (CHF 39/month) covers up to 1,000 checks and 50 members.

Key differences

Scope

Cronitor is a broader platform: cron monitoring, uptime and synthetic checks, status pages, real-user analytics and error events [1][2]. Cuckoo deliberately covers only scheduled jobs and heartbeats. If you want one bill for uptime, status pages and cron, Cronitor is the more complete option.

Pricing model

Cronitor charges per monitor and per user, which is fair for a few monitors and grows linearly with usage [1]. Cuckoo's plans are flat monthly CHF prices, so adding a monitor doesn't change the bill until you reach the plan limit.

Developer tooling

Cronitor's CLI can discover existing crontab entries and wrap them, and it has SDKs for several languages and tools [2]. Cuckoo relies on plain HTTP pings (one curl line), with copy-paste guides for common schedulers, plus Sentry SDK compatibility: if your code already uses Sentry.withMonitor() or sentry_sdk.monitor, you point the DSN at Cuckoo instead of rewriting the instrumentation.

On-call and escalation

Cronitor's Business plan has SMS and on-call integrations such as PagerDuty, OpsGenie, Splunk On-Call and Datadog On-Call [1]. Cuckoo sends email, Slack, Discord and webhooks; you can forward webhooks into an on-call tool yourself, but there is no native escalation.

When to choose Cronitor instead

  • You want crontab auto-discovery and output capture without editing each job [2].
  • You need status pages, uptime checks or real-user analytics in the same tool [1].
  • You need SMS, PagerDuty/OpsGenie integrations, SAML SSO or SCIM [1].
  • You have only a handful of jobs: the free Hacker plan's 5 monitors may be enough [1].

When Cuckoo fits better

  • You only need cron/heartbeat monitoring and prefer a flat price over per-monitor and per-user billing.
  • You already send Sentry cron check-ins and want to move them by changing the DSN.
  • You want a Swiss-operated, EU-hosted service invoiced in CHF.

FAQ

Is Cuckoo cheaper than Cronitor?

It depends on the number of monitors and users. Cronitor Business costs $2 per monitor plus $5 per user per month [1], so 20 monitors and 3 users cost $55/month. Cuckoo's plans are flat: Free for 20 checks, Team CHF 12/month for 200 checks and 10 members, Business CHF 39/month for 1,000 checks.

Can I use Cronitor's ping URLs with Cuckoo?

Not directly; each service has its own URLs. The common pattern is the same, though: replace the Cronitor telemetry URL in your crontab with https://cuckoo.metastic.ch/ping/YOUR-UUID and use /start and /fail for the run and fail states.

Does Cuckoo discover my crontab automatically?

No. You create checks in the dashboard (or via the Sentry SDK's monitor_config) and add one curl line per job. Cronitor's CLI can read the crontab and guide you through each job [2].

Does Cuckoo have status pages?

No. Cuckoo focuses on job monitoring. Cronitor includes one status page on every plan and sells branded and private pages as add-ons [1].
