Supported gets fixes and is more than 90 days from its EOL date. EOL soon reaches end of life within 90 days. End of life gets no more security fixes.

How Python support works

Python gets a new feature release every October. Each version is supported for about five years: first with regular bug-fix releases, then with source-only security fixes until its end of life. The exact dates are set in each version's release schedule PEP.

After the end of life there are no fixes, and the ecosystem moves on quickly: libraries such as Django, NumPy and pandas drop support for old Pythons, and new wheels stop being built for them. That makes an outdated interpreter a blocker for upgrading everything else.

Above are all Python 3 versions with their release dates, latest patch release, end of bug-fix support and end of life.

Python EOL questions

Which Python versions are still supported?

As of 5 Nov 2026: Python 3.15 (until 31 Oct 2031), Python 3.14 (until 31 Oct 2030), Python 3.13 (until 31 Oct 2029), Python 3.12 (until 31 Oct 2028), Python 3.11 (until 31 Oct 2027).

When is the next Python end of life?

Python 3.11 reaches its end of life on 31 Oct 2027 (in 360 days). After that date it gets no more security fixes.

How do I check which Python version I run?

Run python3 --version. Check every server and container image, not only your laptop: production often runs an older version than development.

How long is a Python version supported?

About five years after its release. The first part has regular bug-fix releases, the rest security fixes only.

What happens when my Python version is end of life?

It keeps running, but it gets no security fixes, and new versions of libraries stop supporting it. Operating systems may still patch their own Python packages for longer, but only within their own support window.
